Charlottesville-Winneba Foundation
Our Foundation
Building Connections. Creating Opportunity. Strengthening Community.
The Charlottesville-Winneba Foundation is an all-volunteer non-profit organization, founded in 2012, that works to strengthen the Sister City relationship between Charlottesville, USA and Winneba, Ghana.
What We Do
The Charlottesville-Winneba Foundation organizes regular visits by Charlottesville-area residents to Winneba, welcomes visiting delegations from Winneba to Charlottesville, and coordinates a wide variety of mutually-beneficial projects between the two communities.
The Foundation has exposed hundreds of Charlottesvillians to the vibrant culture and rich history of Ghana and has supported orphanages, schools, hospitals, libraries, fire safety efforts, environmental conservation initiatives, and a host of other projects in Winneba.
The Foundation also serves as a fiscal sponsor for artists inspired by their time in Ghana to undertake creative endeavors that shed light on the African-American experience.
Our Approach
The Charlottesville-Winneba Foundation relies heavily on the support of individual volunteers and donors to carry forward its mission. Through the many partnerships that the Foundation has facilitated and nurtured between Charlottesville and Winneba, the work of international collaboration flourishes.
